The Selec multifunction meter and Blue Jay multifunction meter are similar in size, electrical connection (1Ø-2W, 2Ø-3W, 3Ø-3W, 3Ø-4W), and installation(panel mount/din rail mount). However, there are differences between them, too
This article will introduce the difference between Selec multifunction meter and Blue Jay multifunction meter from measuring parameters, Types of output, communication, accuracy, supply voltage, CT secondary, PT secondary, Display and digits.
Both Selec multifunction meter and Blue Jay multifunction meter can measure basic parameters, including Voltage, Current, Frequency, Power factor, Active/Reactive/Apparent Power, and Active/Reactive/Apparent energy. Selec multifunction meter includes Selec energy meter MFM383A, Selec energy meter MFM384, Selec MFM 376, MFM391 Selec, etc. These multifunction meters are different in unbalance for voltage and current, max demand & demand, and THD up to 31 levels. The Selec mfm383a multifunction meter can only measure basic measuring parameters, which can be replaced by Blue Jay APM-96Z. In general, Blue Jay multifunction meters can measure more comprehensive electrical parameters than Selec multifunction meter. Only Blue Jay multifunction meter can measure Time of use (TOU), Current/voltage deviation, Volt flicker/drop/fluct, Waveform capture, and SOE record. Only Selec multifunction meter can measure Phase Angle/Neutral Current/ RPM – monitors generator speed/ DG Sensing/Run Hour/Displacement PF/Auxiliary Interrupts.
Most of Selec multifunction meters have pulse outputs. Blue Jay multifunction meters are digital output, pulse output, or analog output options.
Selec multifunction meters adopt RS-485, while Blue Jay multifunction power meters are default RS-485 and support Ethernet or Profibus option.

When choosing between a Selec and a Blue Jay meter, it’s clear that both offer robust core functionalities. The decision comes down to your project’s specific needs. If your application involves generator monitoring or requires specialized industrial inputs, a Selec meter may be the ideal fit. However, if your focus is on a deeper understanding of power quality—from voltage fluctuations to waveform analysis—the Blue Jay APM series multifunction meter provides a more complete solution. To make the right choice, carefully evaluate which of these unique feature sets is most critical to your operational success.
