3 Differences Between Single Phase And Three Phase Energy Meter
When choosing an energy meter, you may want to know
DC energy meters are increasing to accurately measure DC power, as the application of Charging piles or DC systems. To help you know what is energy meter, this article will introduce its working principles, types, and applications.
A DC energy meter is a meter that generates an output proportional to the electrical energy being measured by applying DC current (or voltage representing DC current) and DC voltage to solid-state (electronic) components. It is designed to measure the electrical energy consumption of a direct current (DC) electrical system.
The working principle of a DC energy meter is based on Ohm’s law, which calculates electrical energy by measuring current and voltage. When current passes through a resistor, a voltage drop occurs across the resistor. A power meter uses this principle to measure the current and voltage passing through it.
A DC-watt-hour meter usually consists of a current measurement part and a voltage measurement part. The current measurement section usually consists of a current transformer and a resistor to measure the current passing through it, while the voltage measurement section consists of a potentiometer and a capacitor to measure the voltage across it. When both current and voltage are measured, the DC energy meter can calculate the energy passing through it. This process is usually done by a microprocessor, which can record and calculate the output of the energy meter.
According to connection, there are direct connection DC energy meters and indirect connection DC energy meters. As for the direct connection DC energy meter, voltage and current measuring elements are directly connected to the testing DC circuit. However, as for indirect connection DC energy meters, voltage, or current measuring elements need to be connected to the testing DC circuit through DC hall current sensors, shunts, etc.
According to the power supply mode, it can be divided into DC energy meters powered by independent power supply and DC energy meters powered by voltage lines.
According to the installation mode, it can be divided into din rail-type and panel-mounting type.
According to the number of channels, it can be divided into single-channel, dual-channel, and multi-channel.
According to the function, it can be divided into single-function and multi-function.
According to the application, it can be divided into DC metering for EV chargers, DC metering for solar panels, DC metering for telecom, metering for data centers, DC metering for DC screens, DC metering for solar systems, etc.
